The capability being tested is that Ethernet switches operate in full duplex, allowing data to be sent and received at the same time on a port. Each switch port can transmit while it’s also receiving, so two devices on opposite ends can exchange frames concurrently. The switch achieves this by forwarding frames based on MAC addresses and keeping each port as its own collision domain, which eliminates the collisions that plagued older shared networks. This combination—simultaneous two-way transmission and targeted forwarding—is what makes switches capable of efficient, concurrent communication.

VPN termination and IP address generation aren’t functions of a basic Ethernet switch. VPN termination is handled by VPN gateways or routers, and IP addresses are assigned by DHCP servers or manually configured, not created by switches.
